Stratford Fall Fair Tournament. On September 22nd, 2011 at the Stratford Fairgrounds, active adults 55+ participated in a fun slo pitch tournament. Players came in from St Marys, Kitchener, Cambridge, Waterloo, Londesboro and Goderich, as well as Stratford. Five teams involved, with Ingersol having to drop out due to weather.
Players didn’t necessarily participate with their home teams. Instead, players were selected by standing in a circle and sounding off 1,2,3,4,5. The pitchers and females were placed all together to ensure females and pitchers were on every team.
The winning team ended up being the Cougars, followed by the Lions in second, and the Panthers in third. Most of the game scores were close, even with the random method of picking teams.
Prize money was donated by the Stratford Agricultural Society, with the money going to the top three finishers. A vote was taken by the prize recipients, and they colectivly decideded to donate this money to the Stratford Food Bank.
The sweaters were donated by the Agriculture Society. Twenty pizzas were donated by Pinos Pizza on Huron Street in Stratford.
There were three volunteers from Community Living of Stratford and Area. Lisa and Franny were bat girls, and Dave was a score keeper. This is an extension of the working partnership with the Community Living and the City.
A thank you goes out to Carys, Pam, Teresa, and Steve Fulton for getting the bases and the ice for the tournament.
